Rest and Pauses

Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest. So they went away by themselves in a boat to a solitary place.” Mark 6:31 – 32 (NIV)

While at home recovering from a stem cell transplant, I have been making a list of the gifts God has given me. During my devotions I figured out what is the most precious gift – it is resting in His Presence. Before this passage, Jesus had calmed the storm, healed a demon possessed man, healed Jairus’s daughter, and healed the bleeding woman who had touched the hem of His garment. The 12 were commissioned and the apostles were reporting to Jesus all they had done and taught. There were so many people coming and going that they did not even have a chance to eat. Sometimes we get that way, so busy doing for God that we forget to take care of our own souls and pause to be with God. Sometimes we just need to pause and rest. Geologists say that certain crystals can only come to their perfect form in stillness. It is in the rest pauses of our day that we are perfected in God and our faith.

Prayer: Lord, some of us have so many distractions and so much noise in our lives that we forget to pause. I thank you God, that you remind us through your Son that we can go to a quiet place daily and get some rest. I pray that I make the time and find a spot in every day to fellowship with the author of silence and find that You will begin to teach me great things about yourself and me. In Jesus Name, Amen!

A sincere thank you to our Daughters of the King Daily Devotional Writers.
