You may have fallen or drifted away from God in your heart, and you are wondering, “How can I get back to my first love?” or “How do I get back what I once had with Him?” When you repent and return to God, a flood of compassion and mercy will meet you right where you are. He will rush in and fill you with His love, free you from all guilt and condemnation, set you on fire for Him, and place you on an awesome course in life! You are never too far away to return to your first love! You may think the intensity of your love for God is not what it used to be, but when you return to God, you’ll find that He’s not interested in giving you what you once had. He is interested in giving you so much more! If you are going to love God, don’t love Him half way. Go all out in your love for Him! Love God with all of your heart, with all of your passion, with reckless abandonment and hot pursuit! Don’t get so caught up in the works and in the mechanics of Christian living, that you miss the whole point of what this is all about. It’s all about love. God so loved you that He gave His Son Jesus to die for you. Love initiated your salvation and your ultimate deliverance, and it is love that will cause you to fulfill God’s plans and purposes for your life. So maintain your love and passion for God. Maintain a warm love and concern for others. Every successful life in God makes it a priority to keep their personal love relationship with Him in tact.
“I know all the things you do. I have seen your hard work and your patient endurance. I know you don’t tolerate evil people. You have examined the claims of those who say they are apostles but are not. You have discovered they are liars. You have patiently suffered for me without quitting. But I have this complaint against you. You don’t love me or each other as you did at first! Look how far you have fallen! Turn back to me and do the works you did at first. If you don’t repent, I will come and remove your lampstand from its place among the churches.” (Revelation 2:2-5 NLT)
Prayer: Father, I return to You. You are my first love. I repent for allowing myself to fall and drift away from You. I’m so thankful for Your compassion and mercy that You have shown, and I receive Your forgiveness. Now Lord flood me with Your love. Fill me with Your Spirit. Give me Your heart and the passion of Jesus. Set my heart on fire for You and cause me to shine bright with Your glory! In Jesus name, Amen.
