Run from Sexual Sin

Posted on Posted in devotions

“Run from sexual sin! No other sin so clearly affects the body as this one does…” (1 Corinthians 6:18, NLT).

I met my husband my freshman year in college. He was a senior and a campus ministry president. After several instances of seeing him around campus, he finally asked me out. Our first date was at a fitness center where I asked him every important question I knew needed to be asked, including: “Are you saved?” “How do you know you’re saved?” “Do you believe in sex before marriage?” “What is your purpose in life?” He answered them all with no hesitation and let me know that he believed in saving himself for marriage. Five years later—after I finished school—we were married. Standing there in the presence of our pastor, family and friends, we kissed for the first time and later were intimate for the first time. I’ll never forget telling him, “Thank you for waiting for me.” A man proves his love by waiting for you. Anyone that doesn’t honor your body will not honor your soul.

The secular world teaches us to embrace sexual sin. Its’ reasoning is, “How can something that feels so good be so wrong.” However, God designed sex to be enjoyed within the confines of marriage. When we go against God’s design, we open a door for the enemy to damage us mentally, emotionally, physically and spiritually. We find in Hebrews 11:25, “There is pleasure in sin for a season.” The Bible also teaches, “The wages of sin is death” (see Romans 6:23).

If you have missed it in this area, don’t condemn yourself or allow the devil to condemn you. There is no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus (see Romans 8:1). There are no seven steps to being free from this powerful sin, which compares to a drug addiction. God’s solution is simple: Run to Him. The Holy Spirit is able to free you from the power of sexual sin.

“So let God work his will in you. Yell a loud no to the Devil and watch him scamper. Say a quiet yes to God and he’ll be there in no time. Quit dabbling in sin. Purify your inner life” (James 4:7-8, MSG).

A message from God’s heart to you:

“I am your Healer and Restorer. I will give you back your glow. I will wash you with My Word and will purify your soul. I will do what you haven’t been able to do. I will break the ties to your past that have kept you bound and will breathe My life into you. I will make all things new for you because you belong to Me. You are special to me. Let Me show you how to love, how to live, how to receive, how to wait, how to live free. Says the Lord.

Prayer: Thank You Lord. You are my loving Father. I repent of my sin and I receive Your forgiveness. I ask that You set me free from sexual sin. Show me who I am in Christ. I submit to You and I resist the devil, and he flees from me now, in Jesus’ name. I declare my body belongs to You and I will glorify You with it. All I want to do is live for You. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
