“And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him.” Colossians 3:10 (KJV)
To be “stuck in a rut” mentally is to be stuck in a routine pattern of thinking. Our thinking patterns are shaped by our past experiences. Whether these experiences were good or bad, we develop thinking patterns that affect how we respond to everything in our lives. As believers, we have the mind of Christ and with this new mind comes new thinking patterns that are perfectly aligned with God’s will. How do we operate in this new mind instead of defaulting to our old thinking? It is not automatic. You could even go as far as to lock yourself in a room nose-deep in the Bible all day, and it wouldn’t change your thinking patterns not one bit. Our thinking patterns change when we create new experiences with the Word of God, applying His word to our lives and to our situations. The more experiences we have with the Word of God, our wrong thinking begins to change into right thinking, and right thinking produces right responses, giving us the freedom in life that we so desperately crave.
Prayer: Father, I have got to change how I think. You have given me the mind of Christ and I choose to operate in it. I receive Your grace to apply Your word to my life and my circumstance and create new experiences. Change every negative thinking pattern that has been shaped by past experiences in my life. Help me get unstuck and on to enjoying total freedom in You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
