“Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails…” I Corinthians 13:4-8
Recently, I had the honor of attending the wedding of two beautiful friends. Friends, I have counseled and walked with through some very difficult divorces. I remember how wounded their hearts were and the walls up about never marrying again, none the less date. But on Saturday, I sat in an old country church rejoicing over the power of pure and gentle Christ like love. Love that covers a multitude of sin, love that forgives, and love that lets go. At ages 36 and 52, both were patiently wooed by the godly love of two men that allowed my friends to open their hearts to love again.
I cried at both weddings, not because most people cry at weddings, but because my heart was leaping to see the power of real genuine love. I was in awe of God and the power of His patient love that allowed my friends to hope, trust and persevere. Real love, really never fails, especially when it is rooted in God’s love.
Prayer: God I thank You for real love that is only found in you. I thank you that the sacrifice of your Son, Jesus was enough to cover all my sins but also enough to help me forgive myself and others that I may hope, trust, and have the courage to move on in life. God I pray, I learn to love myself and others as You have loved me because real love never fails! In Jesus Name, Amen!
