“Now before the feast of the passover, when Jesus knew that his hour was come that he should depart out of this world unto the Father, having loved his own which were in the world, he loved them unto the end.” John 13:1
His hour was come, and He loved them until the end. Just let that marinate in your heart for a moment.
I once told a dear friend, “There’s nothing you can do that would make me stop loving you.” She laughed. Then she said, what if I do this or that? I told her, how I would be very upset, but I would still love her. She then gave more examples of things that could make me stop loving her, every possible scenario, and to all I said no. There is nothing you can do to make me stop loving you. No matter how I feel at the moment, I am determined in my love because I am committed to my purpose.
Jesus loved His disciples until the end, even the one who would betray Him, the one who would deny Him, the one who would doubt Him and the many that would run away from Him. His love for them had nothing to do with how they behaved toward Him, but all to do with His commitment to His purpose. He wouldn’t have gone to the cross if He didn’t love them. Neither will you take up your cross unless you love others.
The hour is approaching when Jesus will come. Ask yourself, “Am I loving others until the end?” “Am I committed to my purpose?”
Prayer: Father God, it hurts my heart to see Your people falling out of love with each other. Help me to be an example of Your determined love, that loves until the end. Show me how to love like Jesus. Thank You for being so faithful in Your love for me. Help me to be faithful in my love for You and to everyone You’ve placed in my life. Until I breathe my last breath, help me stay committed to Your purpose for my life. In Jesus name, Amen.
