“But I have this [one charge to make] against you: that you have left (abandoned) the love that you had at first [you have deserted Me, your first love].” Revelation 2:4 (Amplified)
“…In returning and rest shall ye be saved; in quietness and in confidence shall be your strength…” Isaiah 30:15
A daughter decides to leave home and her father says something that stays with her, “I love you and this is your home. No matter where you go, no matter what you do, know that you are loved and that you can always return home.” She then heads out the door. Knowing he can’t force her will, he prays for her night and day until one morning he receives a knock at the door. It is his daughter. Returning home.
To return is to come to the same state, to revisit. To return from a state of bondage, to a state of freedom. To answer. We don’t have to pack our bags and head to another geographical location to leave God. We abandon Him in our hearts. And after the world has used us up and after following our own way has left us disappointed, we begin to crave God’s warm love again. So we return home and are restored to His favor and love. It feels like we never left. And everything we first loved and all that we first enjoyed is returned. There’s no shame and no condemnation, only love. Just as the father told his daughter, God loves you and He is your home. He is your rest. He is your safety. No matter where you go, no matter what you do, know that you are loved by God and you can always return home. But one thing you must not do. Don’t die outside of Him.That is the enemy’s ultimate goal. To kill you while you’re lost. Destroy you while you’re in sin so you can spend eternity in a place of torment that was not designed for you. But if you are still alive it is because of God’s rich mercy. Somebody’s praying for you. Jesus Himself is interceding for you at the mercy seat of God. Backslider, it’s time to return home to your First Love. Those who are lost and confused, it’s time to return home to your First Love. Those on the brink of a nervous breakdown, it’s time to return home to your First Love. Those who are stuck in religious tradition, it’s time to return home to your First Love. Return and it will be as though you never left His side. He will treat you as though you never left.
Prayer: Father, I return to You. Forgive me for leaving You. I repent of all my sin and I come home to You. Thank You for Your undying love and affection for me. Thank You for the mercy You have shown me. Thank You that I didn’t die in my sin. I pray You restore me to Your divine favor and let it be like I never left. Restore the sweetness of our relationship. Restore the joy of my salvation. Be glorified in me. In Jesus name, Amen.
