This philosophy in the business world is used whenever a company has made it their primary goal to build a solid relationship with their customers. While other companies seek to guarantee this or that and have a long list of things they will do for you in order to win your business, the companies that often excel are the ones that only have a few promises they make to their customers, and they focus on doing an excellent job at just those things. It’s like a small bed and breakfast inn located in a beautiful secluded hillside. They aren’t the Hilton, and they don’t promise wifi connection, valet parking, or strawberries and chocolates in the room upon arrival. However, what they can promise is the most comfortable bed you have ever slept in and the best country breakfast you have ever tasted in your life. Because they over deliver on the few promises they have made, they win customers for life. What they have done is something many of us can learn a great deal from in our own lives. We don’t have to make tons of promises in order win the respect, loyalty, and commitment of others. People aren’t won by promises. They are won by how we deliver on the few promises we have made.
“A person who promises a gift but doesn’t give it is like clouds and wind that bring no rain.” Proverbs 25:14
Father, Thank You for teaching me this important lesson. Help me to avoid the temptation to over promise in my life and show me how to do the things I have comitted to do to the best of my ability. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
