“And God wrought special miracles by the hands of Paul: So that from his body were brought unto the sick handkerchiefs or aprons, and the diseases departed from them, and the evil spirits went out from them.” Acts 19:11-12
In this text, we find Paul being used by God to work miracles of healing and deliverance from evil spirits. We later find seven sons of Sceva, a Jewish priest, who took it upon themselves to cast out evil spirits out of some men, saying, “We adjure you by Jesus whom Paul preaches.” The evil spirit responded, “Jesus I know, and Paul I know; but who are you?” and then one of the men that had an evil spirit jumped on them, beat them up and sent them running from that place naked and wounded. It is true that God can use us to do great things. Every believer has the power to lay hands on the sick and see them recover, to raise the dead, and to cast out demons. There are different gifts and operations of the Spirit and any believer anointed by God, must be led by God. There are many self-appointed people who are only seeking to make a name for themselves. They want recognition from man and are doing works that God did not tell them to do. They are modern day sons of Sceva, taking it upon themselves to do something God did not tell them to do. Whatever God tells you to do, He will equip you, anoint you and prosper you in it. Anything done for God, is done by God, is done through His Spirit, and is done with Him. No man can take credit for what God does. How do you know when God is telling you to do a work? It will line up with His Word, you will have peace in your heart, and He will send others to confirm it. Whatever assignment God has given you, bathe it in prayer. Every success is first a prayer success. In this day in time, you must stay close to His side, doing only what He tells you to do, saying only what He gives you to say, and going only where He tells you to go.
Prayer: Father God, thank You for the warning and the encouragement. Lord, I pray You help me to stay extra sensitive to Your Holy Spirit and to Your instructions. Help me to stay close to Your side doing only what You tell me, saying only what You tell me to say, and going only where You tell me to go. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
