“You are my hiding place; you will protect me from trouble and surround me with songs of deliverance” (Psalm 32:7, NIV).
Blessed. We love that word because of the promise it brings. We use the word to describe so many situations-we consider ourselves blessed to spend time with those we love, blessed when we get to do things we enjoy, blessed when we feel relaxed, happy, at peace, at home.
One of our greatest blessings is God’s Word. We have it to help us grow and learn, and most of all, to bring us closer to our King.
Psalm 32 shows us five specific blessings that all Christians can claim as their own.
Verses 1 and 2: We have the Blessing of Forgiveness of our sin:
Blessed is the one whose transgressions are forgiven, whose sins are covered. Blessed is the one whose sin the Lord does not count against them and in whose spirit is no deceit.
Verses 3 through 5: We have the Blessing of Confession:
When I kept silent, my bones wasted away through my groaning all day long. For day and night your hand was heavy on me; my strength was sapped as in the heat of summer. Then I acknowledged my sin to you and did not cover up my iniquity. I said, “I will confess my transgressions to the Lord.” And you forgave the guilt of my sin.
Verses 6 and 7: We have the Blessing of Salvation and Deliverance:
Therefore let all the faithful pray to you while you may be found; surely the rising of the mighty waters will not reach them. You are my hiding place; you will protect me from trouble and surround me with songs of deliverance.
Verses 8 and 9: We have the Blessing of Obedience to God:
I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my loving eye on you. Do not be like the horse or the mule, which have no understanding but must be controlled by bit and bridle or they will not come to you.
Verses 10 and 11: We have the Blessing of Faith:
Many are the woes of the wicked, but the Lord’s unfailing love surrounds the one who trusts in him. Rejoice in the Lord and be glad, you righteous; sing, all you who are upright in heart!
I would like to explore each of these in more detail in the coming weeks. I hope the words of life that come from this psalm will bring you blessings as you face difficulties and battle against the ruler of this world. Read the words of Psalm 32 again. As a Daughter of the King, these words-His Word-belong to you.
Prayer: Lord, I know I am blessed because I am Yours! Only through You can I break the power of the enemy and stand against the ruler of this world. Only through You can I have power over strongholds and addictions. Only through You can I hope to reach others for Your glory. Help me to rely on Your Word and Your power. In Your holy name, Amen.
