“And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not:for it was founded upon a rock.” Matthew 7:25
What makes a relationship strong and able to withstand anything? Is it some special type of chemistry? Is it that we just get along? Is it a powerful spiritual bond? Or a high level of communication? No, it is simply hearing and doing what God says. Obedience to God’s Word strengthens even if it makes you look weak. The figurative house Jesus spoke of stood up against the floods, the rain and the winds because it was founded upon a rock of someone that hears and does the Word. Where does this hearing and obeying take place? In our personal relationship with the Lord. All too often, we can think, “oh, well! That relationship was so shallow! One little disagreement and it just fell to pieces. I guess it wasn’t real anyway.” And we move on in search of something real, never realizing what makes anything real and lasting is us strengthening our personal relationship with God. Rather than focusing on the foundation of your relationship with others, focus on strengthening the foundation of your relationship with the Lord. Let Him grow your faith, accomplish His work in you and help you overcome your flesh. Let Him really develop you and you will become an individual that can withstand through the love tests, the disagreements, misunderstandings, disappointments, and anything else. When you yourself become strong and fortified through a growing relationship with the Lord, you will be able to strengthen your relationships and not let them crumble.
Prayer: Father, I thank You for encouraging me. You are my God and if anyone knows how to build something that’ll last, it is You. I choose Your way and trust that as I follow You, You will strengthen not just me, but my relationships too. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
