“For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind” 2 Timothy 1:7, NKJV.
While standing at the altar, having just said our weddings vows, it was now time for him to put the ring on my finger. But something happened that caused a wave of doubt to flood my mind—the ring didn’t fit. Something said, “Girl, this is a sign! You better run while you still have a chance!” Then he pushed and pushed until finally the ring went on and to this day, I’m happy I married him.
In getting to know a new friend, a situation arose that caused both of us emotional pain. While feeling hurt, something said, “Girl, this is a sign! You better run while you still have a chance!” But we pushed and pushed until love and forgiveness came forth, and our friendship was made stronger than ever.
In both instances, there was a real temptation to run. God wasn’t telling me to run, it was fear speaking in my ear. Fear will always turn a small situation into an insurmountable problem and a good person into a monster in your mind. But if you run from challenges and every hurtful situation, you will never know what God had in store. As God helps me each day to overcome my fears, I’m thankful for His gentle push in the right direction. When fear says to you, “Girl you better run!” Say, “No. I’m going to face this and trust in the goodness of my God.”
Prayer: Father God, I thank you for speaking directly to my heart. I resist the temptation to run from my problems, and I rebuke all fear and doubt. I receive the faith and courage of Jesus right now, and I choose to trust in your great love for me. You are bigger than anything I’m facing, and I ask for you to be glorified in my situation. In Jesus name, Amen.
