“For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind” 2 Timothy 1:7, NKJV.
Standing at the altar, having just said our weddings vows; it was now time for him to put the ring on my finger. But something happened that caused a wave of doubt to flood my mind—the ring didn’t fit. Something said, “Girl, this is a sign! You better run while you still have a chance!” Then he pushed and pushed until finally, the ring went on and to this day, I’m happy I married him.
In getting to know a new friend, a situation arose that caused both of us emotional pain. While feeling hurt, something said, “Girl, this is a sign! You better run while you still have a chance!” But we pushed and pushed until love and forgiveness came forth, and our friendship was made stronger because of it.
In both instances, there was a real temptation to run from the problem. You will know it’s fear because fear will always turn a small situation into an insurmountable problem and a good person into a monster in your mind. But if you run from challenges and every hurtful situation, you will never know what God had in store. As God helps me each day to overcome my fears, I’m thankful for His gentle nudges in the right direction.
When fear says to you, “Girl, you better run!” Say out loud from your heart, “I resist the temptation to run from my problems, and I rebuke all fear and doubt. I receive the faith and courage of Jesus right now, and I choose to trust in His great love for me. My God is bigger than anything I’m facing, and I receive His strength right now to face this. He will be glorified in my situation and in my life. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
