When God says, “Write a Book.”

Posted on Posted in devotions

“And the Lord, He is the One who goes before you. He will be with you, He will not leave you nor forsake you; do not fear nor be dismayed” Deuteronomy 31:8, NKJV.

When God speaks to you and tells you that He wants you to write a book, it’s no light matter. It means there is something He wants you to communicate to the rest of the world, in the way He gave you to communicate it. You may, in fact, see hundreds or thousands of books on store shelves, and wonder what difference yours could make. The truth is, God knows the person(s) He’s trying to reach, and if your book captivates and changes one person’s life, it was worth it!

Where do you start?

You write. You sit down, away from all distractions, and you pour your heart out on paper, on your computer or on a recording device. Don’t be concerned about dividing anything into chapters or editing anything just yet. The goal is to get it all out. Once you know in your heart that you’ve completely shared all that God has poured into you, taught you and revealed to you, now it’s time to put it all into book form.  Divide it into chapters. Then, read through your manuscript from beginning to end, to make sure every chapter coincides with the overall message and tone of your book. Take a short break and then come back to it with fresh eyes. Also, it would be a good idea to let someone else read it who can give you positive criticism.

If you have the expertise, go through it to edit it or hire an editor. If you have the expertise, design the cover art or hire a designer. If you neither have the time or money to hire anyone, it would be a good idea to look online or ask in your church or community for someone who might be willing to barter services. You’d be surprised how many editors and graphic designers would be happy to trade services. Just be sure to get your agreement in writing.

Now it’s time to publish. Some choose the traditional publishing company while others go the self-publishing route. I’d encourage you to do your research, make your comparisons and then make your decision.

The bottom-line is no one can write the book for you. When it’s released, no one can promote like you. God is with you to help you at every stage of the process. Remember, God has gone before you, He is with you. He will not fail you or forsake you. You can do it!

Prayer: Thank you, Lord, for the grace to do what you’ve spoken to me to do. Remove all fear and doubt and help me to start this work and complete it. Connect me with the right people and show me how you want this to be done. I trust you. Be glorified in me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
