You Have Not, Cause You Ask Not

“Every woman is to ask her neighbor and any woman living in her household for…” Exodus 3:22 (NIV)

The last instruction in Chapter 3, God tells Moses to tell the women to ask the Egyptian women for articles of silver, gold and clothing in preparation for their journey. I began to wonder, “what if they were afraid or too prideful to ask?”

How many of us are too afraid, prideful, angry or hurt to ask for help? How many of us are afraid we will appear weak or needy if we ask for help? However, if the truth be told, we are all weak and needy because God desires us to be our brother and sister’s keeper, to love and be there for one another.

Being sick with cancer for four years forced me to ask for help on a daily basis, something I did not like doing because I am the encourager. I am the one now in need. The week before my stem cell transplant, I had an anxiety attack. Me, the woman of faith, God’s daughter and Bible study teacher. I was not afraid to die, that was the easy way out. I was afraid to go through the pain and horror of the days ahead. After crying all night, I awoke with God telling me to call my sisters, be honest and have them pray over me for I will need them to get me through. For the first time, I gathered my sister friends who I had ministered to for years. I admitted that I was faithful but afraid, and I would need them to pray me through and be there for me when I came home. What a humbling experience, but what if I was too prideful, afraid, or ashamed to ask for help? God blessed me that year with prayers and friends coming through in many ways to take care of me, my son and my home and I am grateful. Looking back, God also wanted witnesses to my pain and my recovery for His Glory.

What do you need today that you are afraid to ask God for? Are you afraid, ashamed, intimidated, weak or hurt to ask another sister for help? Just like the Israelite women, God has already gone before you and granted you favor and respect. You just need to have the courage to ask. This is for His Glory, for you, and for those who are watching.

Prayer: Father God, I thank you that I do not have to go through life alone. Give me the courage to humble myself and ask You and others for help when needed. In Jesus Name!
